Private by design
Humboldt’s Home is built for children and families. Here is exactly how it handles data — in plain language.
What we collect: nothing.
- No accounts. You don’t sign up or log in to read, reflect, or explore.
- No servers storing your child’s data. Reflections, saved landmarks, explorer profiles, and journeys live only in your browser’s local storage — on your device.
- No ads, no third-party trackers, no analytics that profile your child.
- You can erase everything anytime from Your Journey (“Clear my journey”) or by clearing your browser data.
What this means for COPPA & FERPA
Because the Atlas does not collect, transmit, or store personal information from children, there is no child data for us to misuse. Reflections a learner writes stay on the device and are never sent to us.
A note on FERPA: FERPA governs schools and districts that receive federal funding — it does not, by its own terms, regulate independent homeschools or educational websites. We mention this only to be accurate: we will never claim a certification we don’t hold.
For parents & guides
You can create a separate explorer profile for each child and preview every landmark, hiding any you’d rather not show — all stored privately on your device. Because data is local to the browser, each device (and each browser) keeps its own separate journeys.
